Phenobarbital is five-ethyl-five-phenylbarbituric acid. Phenobarbital is a substituted pyrimidine spinoff through which the basic structure is barbituric acid, a substance which includes no CNS activity. CNS exercise is received by substituting alkyl, alkenyl, or aryl groups to the pyrimidine ring.
